UK Prime Minister Theresa May has faced criticism over her decision to trigger Article 50 of the EU’s Lisbon Treaty on March 17, but the decision has been welcomed by some European leaders.
Theresa May said she is not giving up on Brexit talks with the EU and will try to persuade the EU to extend its withdrawal agreement, which expires in 2021.
The Prime Minister also said she was determined to keep the UK in the EU customs union after Brexit.
EU leaders are due to discuss Britain’s withdrawal agreement in Brussels later on Thursday.
The EU has repeatedly urged the UK to maintain the customs union, which includes the UK, to prevent it from becoming too dependent on the bloc.
